Oil and Gas Sudan Minister Saad Hussein Al-Bushra said on 28 April that maintenance work at the Khartoum refinery had been completed. Refining operations will start again within the next two days.

Al-Bushra said the reopening of the refinery would end the lack of fuel in the capital and other parts of the country. Previously, the decision to stop part of the refinery for maintenance was "essential" for the preservation of this strategic facility.

Reopening the refinery will end the lack of fuel in the capital and other parts of the country.
The Khartoum and other parts of Sudan have experienced serious shortages of oil-related products, particularly gasoline and diesel.
The Khartoum refinery, located about 60 km north of the capital, was shut down at the end of March for regular maintenance. The capacity of this refinery is 95,000 barrels per day.
After Sudan's secession in 2011, Sudan lost nearly 75 percent of its oil revenues. Sudan is producing around 115,000 barrels of gasoline a day.
